HENRY VIII

“NO MAN’S PIE IS FREED FROM HIS AMBITIOUS FINGER”
King Henry VIII is married to Katherine of Aragon, an upright and virtuous wife. Henry, a proud and wilful monarch, wishes to defy Rome’s ban on divorce to marry the beguiling Anne Boleyn. Despite attempts to sway the Pope by Cardinal Wolsey, England’s powerful Lord Chancellor and accomplished politician, the Catholic Church remains implacable, signalling the beginning of the Church of England. Henry divorces Katherine and takes Anne as his wife. England’s new queen gives birth to a girl who would become England’s most famous monarch, Elizabeth I.

In a unique partnership, SelfMadeHero publishes Henry VIII in association with Historic Royal Palaces, the charity responsible for Hampton Court Palace and four other royal palaces in and around London. Patrick Warren has researched period costumes, interiors and exteriors at Hampton Court Palace and the Tower of London for this manga blend of historical accuracy and Shakespearean drama.

Publication in April 2009 coincides with the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession to the throne.
